Dr. Michael Grey, PsyD, LMFT, ABS.

Board Certified Sexologist (24088)

Currently Licensed to provide services in CA (LMFT #136636), FL (TPMF1219) & NV (4734-R)

I am a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a deep commitment to helping individuals navigate and heal from life's challenges. Holding a Doctorate in Psychology (Marriage and Family Therapy Specialization), a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology (MFT specialization), and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a focus on Neuropsychology my educational journey has been rich and diverse, equipping me with a profound understanding of the human mind and relationships.

At the core of my therapeutic approach is the Bowen Family Systems theory, rooted in Psychoanalysis. This perspective allows me to view an individual's challenges not just on a personal level, but within the larger context of their family and societal systems. I help my patients unravel and address deep-rooted issues by bringing unconscious patterns to the forefront fostering meaningful and lasting change.

Specializing in Trauma, I am trained in brain-based interventions such as EMDR, Brainspotting, Biofeedback, and Neurofeedback. My expertise extends to addressing concerns unique to BDSM/Kink dynamics, Consensual Non-Monogamous and Poly Relationships, and the Sexual and Gender Minority (LGBTQIA+) community. I have substantial experience working with religious trauma, sexual exploitation, and a range of issues related to sexual and gender identity.

My professional journey has taken me through various roles, including Lead Clinical Therapist in nonprofit settings and partial hospitalization/intensive outpatient dual diagnosis programs. I am a Clinical Fellow of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) and a Clinical Member of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT) and the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT). I am a Board Certified Sexologist, through the American Board of Sexology (ABS), and My dissertation, "The G.R.E.Y. Method," reflects my commitment to developing affirmative therapeutic practices for the Sexual and Gender Minority (SGM) community.

My patients have affectionately termed my approach to therapy as “The Loving Hammer.” This encapsulates my empathetic yet confrontational style, combining warmth and directness to challenge and support my patients effectively. I am a firm believer in self-love, healing the inner child, and reprocessing trauma, all while maintaining accountability. Together, we will work to uncover the root causes of your distress, examine how these wounds impact your interactions and daily life, gain valuable insights, and empower you to embrace living your life with unapologetic authenticity.

Outside of my clinical practice, I am passionate about educating future psychotherapists and engaging in community work focused on mental health support for sexually exploited individuals and the SGM community. When not working, I enjoy playing video games, exercising, hiking, cooking, baking, and spending quality time with my puppy and partners, often indulging in horror movies or engaging TV shows.

As a Therapist, my ultimate aim is to nurture healing and support individuals in crafting lives rich with fulfillment. Drawing from my own experiences, I endeavor to extend a hand to those who have felt marginalized or burdensome, who may believe they are alone in their struggles. Whether one has faced trauma in their past or present, I offer assurance that healing is not merely a hope but can be a reality, and you are welcomed, embraced, and valued here.

  • During your initial assessment there will be a lot of questions, and I apologize for that ahead of time. This is what is required for me to develop a picture of what we are working with, and if I am able to benefit you.

This is a safe space, and you are a human being, come just as you are.

  • The duration of our therapeutic relationship truly depends on the unique aspects of what we're working on. Therapy isn't a one-size-fits-all experience—some individuals find benefit in a six-month commitment, while others may choose to engage for several years.

As I always say “You have been on this planet for X amount of years, and have learned a lot of things, unlearning and processing all of that will not happen over night.”
